Yesterday, Casa Vicens welcomed us as one more of the family. The doors were opened for us so we could explore each and every corner and admire what Antoni Gaudí started in 1883 and that Joan Baptista Serra de Martínez, recommended architect by Gaudí, expanded in 1925.

In total, the house is almost 700m2 (+ garden, originally) that hides details in very corner. Some of them small, tiny, minuscule; this is why we recommend going there with time to explore everything in a more calm manner. Both the smaller hand painted designs on the mini-tiles and the wide rooms invite you to take a walk and reflect about how life would have been at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. Do you see yourself living in a house like Casa Vicens in those times? We did whilst we walked through it and there were both pros and cons to what we were imagining.
One of the things that surprised us, among others, was that there are small rooms especially created for smoking and we are sure that it was the room were most people gathered at parties and friend meet ups at the time; as it also happens nowadays, all smokers go outside the establishment or restaurant to smoke and only a few say inside… well, some things don’t change in life.

Each floor of the house is different than the last one and it’s worth taking a while to soak in what each and every one has to offer: the garden, the noble floor, the second floor, where we can find Gaudí’s inicial blueprints that he drew to present the project on display , and last but not least, the very detailed roof.

And you will be able to walk through this beautiful house, declared a World Heritage property by UNESCO in 2005, it’s possible to do so since 2017, when it was first open to the public. If you want to get to know the earliest Gaudí, who created slowly and with no rush, paying attention to every large and small detail, come inside here and discover everything you can find at Casa Vicens… which is a lot!
You will honestly come out amazed and wanting to come back!
